Exploring the Vineyards
Nicewonder Vineyards span 13 acres of rolling farmland, initially planted with Viognier, Chardonnay, and Merlot. Over the years, the vineyard has expanded to include Petit Verdot, and their wines have garnered numerous accolades, including a Gold Medal at the 2016 Virginia Governor’s Cup for their Viognier.
The Tasting Room Experience
The Tasting Room at Nicewonder Vineyards is located at the far end of the estate, offering a picturesque drive through the property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a charming young lady who provided us with a tasting sheet. The tasting room features a large covered patio area, equipped with industrial fans to keep guests cool on warm days.
Nicewonder offers a variety of tasting options: single tastes, a flight of three wines for $7.50, or a full tasting of six wines for $15. With 13 wines available, choosing was a delightful challenge. I opted for the full tasting, sampling two whites (Viognier and White Merlot), a Rosé, and two reds (Temptation and Petit Verdot). The Temptation, a fortified dessert wine made from a blend of Petit Verdot and Merlot, stood out as the most intriguing. However, my favorite was the Viognier, a medium-bodied white that was perfect for the warm July day.
Culinary Delights
At this charming winery, it’s not just about the award-winning wines; it’s the entire culinary experience. Picture this: a wood-fired oven, the aroma of freshly prepared dishes, and a menu that spans from crisp salads to mouthwatering appetizers, hearty sandwiches, and artisanal pizzas. And the best part? Each dish is thoughtfully paired with a wine recommendation, ensuring your taste buds embark on a delightful journey.
In conclusion, our visit to Nicewonder Farm and Vineyards was a delightful blend of beautiful scenery, exceptional wines, and warm hospitality. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, Nicewonder Farm offers an experience that is both relaxing and enriching.
